Lancaster Royal Grammar School

Lancaster Royal Grammar School is one of the UK’s top grammar schools. As a state school, education is free for all pupils. We are a successful state boarding school, rated as ‘outstanding’ across all categories by Ofsted.
There are 1150 pupils at the school, including 155 boarders and a thriving Sixth Form of 350 students. We challenge the brightest pupils in the North West of England, along with boarders from further afield, to fulfil their potential.
Our Sixth Form is coeducational, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming Sixth Form girls as boarders from September 2020.
The values central to Lancaster Royal Grammar School are those of academic and extra-curricular excellence and opportunity, within a diverse and tolerant community: these form the best possible foundation for future life.
Our pupils achieve outstanding exam results (54% A*/A grades at A-level, and 40% 8/9 grades at GCSE in 2019), and we have a national reputation for sporting excellence. Twelve pupils received offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities in 2019. The atmosphere of the school is vibrant and inspiring – and fun!
We are particularly proud of the warmth of the relationships between pupils and staff, and of the quality of our pastoral care.
Lancaster Royal Grammar School was awarded the status of International School in the first year that the award was presented in 1989, amongst only nine UK schools that year. This accredited award recognised our highly developed contacts overseas. Our links extend out across the globe, providing boys with a numerous opportunities to visit other schools abroad, and sample cultures as far away as India, Peru, and Australia.
LRGS has been a partner school in the Erasmus (formerly Comenius) Programme for many years, collaborating successfully with schools in several countries: Finland, Germany, Hungary, Cyprus, Italy, France, Ireland, Romania and Poland. We recently completed the Erasmus+ KA2 ‘Personal Finance Programme’ for which our lead teacher, Russell Wareing, won a ‘Personal Finance Teacher of the Year’ Award from Moneywise.
We are currently leading two Erasmus+ KA2 Projects, ‘Parallel Histories’ and ‘EntreComp Certificate’.
